UK Pension & Retirement Education | MBA | UK Insurance & Consumer Financial Experience

Chinedu Okoronkwo is the Founder and Editor of Pension Starter Guide, a UK-focused platform dedicated to making pensions, retirement planning and long-term financial decisions easier to understand.

He founded Pension Starter Guide with a simple objective: to help everyday people understand the UK pension system in clear, practical language so they can make better-informed decisions about their retirement.

Chinedu holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Northampton and has built a diverse professional career spanning human resources, payroll, UK insurance, consumer financial services, international government liaison and business operations.

His professional experience gives him a broad understanding of the relationship between employment, earnings, financial products, consumers and long-term financial planning—all areas that intersect with the way people build and prepare for retirement.

Professional Background

Before founding Pension Starter Guide, Chinedu developed experience across several areas of business and consumer-facing work.

UK Insurance & Consumer Financial Services

At i-smart Consumer Solutions in Northampton, Chinedu worked in insurance claims and reclaims, helping UK consumers pursue refunds relating to mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance (PPI).

This experience gave him direct exposure to the difficulties consumers can encounter when dealing with financial products and claims, as well as the importance of providing information that people can understand when making financial decisions.

This consumer-focused experience became an important part of his motivation for creating accessible financial education.

Human Resources & Payroll

Chinedu has also worked in human resources and talent acquisition at Hundred Jobs and in payroll at East Angard Staffing.

These roles provided practical exposure to employment, remuneration and workplace administration—areas that are closely connected to the UK’s workplace pension system and the way many people build retirement savings through employment.

International Government & Commercial Liaison

As a Liaison Officer in the Commercial Section of the Embassy of Argentina, Chinedu worked between the Argentine home office and government, developing experience in communication, coordination, commercial affairs and working across organisations.

Business Operations & Supply Chain

Chinedu also worked as a Supply Chain Administrator in the oil and gas downstream sector, where he was responsible for plotting the bulk supply of refined petroleum products.

This role developed his experience in analysing operational information, coordinating complex processes and working with detailed commercial data.

From Professional Experience to Pension Education

Chinedu’s career has taken him through several different areas of professional life, but a common thread has been the importance of clear information, careful administration and helping people navigate complex systems.

His experience in insurance and consumer financial services particularly highlighted how difficult financial products and claims can be for ordinary consumers to understand.

That experience, combined with his MBA and professional background in payroll, human resources and business operations, contributed to his decision to establish Pension Starter Guide.

The purpose of the platform is not to replace regulated financial advice.

It is to make UK pension and retirement information easier to understand, give readers a clearer starting point for their own research, and help people identify the questions they may need to ask a pension provider, government body or qualified financial professional.

What Chinedu Researches

As Founder and Editor, Chinedu’s work focuses on researching and explaining subjects including:

UK pension basics

Workplace pensions

Personal and private pensions

State Pension

Pension contributions

Pension tax and allowances

Retirement planning

Pension withdrawals and retirement income

Pension options at retirement

Pension and retirement savings

Pensions after divorce

Long-term retirement planning

Changes to UK pension policy and legislation

The focus is on explaining complicated subjects in plain English without unnecessary financial jargon.

How Pension Starter Guide Researches Its Content

Pension information can change as legislation, tax rules, government policy and pension regulations develop.

For this reason, Pension Starter Guide follows a source-led, human editorial approach.

When researching a pension or retirement topic, Chinedu seeks to:

Identify the question readers are actually trying to answer.

Research authoritative UK sources relevant to the subject.

Check dates, thresholds, rules and relevant exceptions.

Compare information where appropriate rather than relying on a single source.

Explain the subject in straightforward language.

Use examples and scenarios to make complex pension concepts easier to understand.

Review the information before publication.

Update content when significant rules, legislation or government guidance changes.

Depending on the subject, research may draw on sources such as GOV.UK, HM Revenue & Customs, The Pensions Regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority, MoneyHelper, the Department for Work and Pensions, legislation.gov.uk, the Office for National Statistics and established pension research organisations.

The aim is not simply to repeat information from these sources, but to understand it, put it into context and explain it in a way that ordinary readers can use as a starting point for further research.

Human-Led Editorial Responsibility

Pension Starter Guide uses technology, including AI-assisted tools, as part of its educational storytelling.

However, AI is not presented as the pension expert behind the website.

Chinedu remains responsible for the editorial direction of Pension Starter Guide and for determining what information is researched, how it is presented and how educational material is used.

The website may use fictional AI characters and AI-assisted videos to illustrate pension and retirement concepts.

These characters are fictional educational presenters. They are not financial advisers, pension professionals or real people, and they do not provide personalised financial advice.

The underlying educational content is researched and reviewed through the site’s human-led editorial process.

Our Approach to Pension Education

Pension Starter Guide is built around four principles:

Clarity

Pension terminology can be confusing. We aim to explain concepts in straightforward language.

Evidence

Important pension and retirement claims should be supported by appropriate authoritative sources.

Transparency

Readers should understand who creates the content, how it is researched and where AI is used.

Education

Our purpose is to help people understand pensions and retirement—not to tell an individual reader which financial product they should buy or what personalised investment decision they should make.
